This year has been quite a whirlwind for me, as I’ve been juggling a multitude of different projects. Amidst the splendid chaos, several award opportunities presented themselves and, I must admit, it was challenging to resist the allure of those shiny accolades. However, one of my primary goals for this year was to expand my professional network and reach beyond the local opportunities that typically come my way. As a result, I took a very selective approach when deciding which awards to pursue.
Now, you might wonder, why even bother with awards? It’s not about chest-pounding or ego-boosting. Of course, there’s an undeniable thrill in holding those trophies, after all you put in blood sweat and tears to run your business. Also the PR opportunities are too good to pass up and often it is in these opportunities that doors open. Yet, there’s a deeper reason for entering awards – it’s all about enhancing your credibility within your industry and the broader business community. Imagine this scenario: you’re comparing two products or businesses side by side, and one is adorned with industry-leading accolades. It’s only natural to lean towards the one that’s recognised as a standout performer.

Never underestimate the value of what you do. Think big and take pride in your accomplishments. You’re making a tangible difference, and that deserves recognition and applause. What I particularly relish about the awards journey is the application process itself. It serves as a powerful tool to bring clarity to your present position, trace your journey from where you started, and shine a spotlight on areas that might require your attention. In the daily hustle and bustle of running a business, we often find ourselves lost in the minutiae, and having this bird’s-eye view of your enterprise is truly invaluable.
So, with immense gratitude, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve secured two noteworthy awards this year. First, in October I received the prestigious BX Networking Business Excellence Award for Photography, an international recognition that fills me with pride. Additionally, I was honored with the ROAR Success National Award for Best Regional/Rural Business. These awards are not just shiny trophies on a shelf; they represent a journey of growth, perseverance, and the unwavering pursuit of excellence.
One thing I did differently this time too…after listening to Annette Densham who recently won the Telstra Award for Advancing Women which is a huge moment in their business. I have some understand of what they had to do to get that far. Anyway…Annette said to always have a speech ready to go. Now at first I felt like I was being presumptuous…but lets face it…you don’t go into the awards process if you don’t think you have a chance. Be honest. So I wrote my one minute acceptance speech and this is what I had to say.
Without my amazing clients I would not be here. It is your dreams and aspirations that I get to showcase in the best light possible and in doing so allows me to shine a little brighter too.
Thankyou to all the organisers and judges. Thankyou to everyone who has helped me build my business. Esp my husband who keeps me grounded
I will continue to grow and live by my word that I am more than just a photographer I’m your visual storyteller
As we move forward, let’s remember that each one of us has the potential to achieve remarkable things, and it’s essential to celebrate those achievements along the way. So, keep dreaming big, stay focused, and who knows – you might just be the next one to proudly display a shiny award on your shelf. Your journey is worth recognising, and your story deserves to be heard.
